why is the amplitude of forced vibration very small when the frequency of the external force is different from the natural frequency of the body?

The amplitude of forced vibrations depends upon the frequency of applied force and the natural frequency of the body. When the difference between this frequecies is large, the amplitude of forced vibrations is very small.
