why is the amount of hydrogen obtained double the amount of oxygen in the eletrolysis of water?

This is beacuse in a balanced chemical equation,
2 H2O (g) 2 H2 (g) + O2 (g)
2 molecules of water decompose to give two molecules of hydrogen and one molecule of oxygen.
