The acidic medium is required in stomach because it is essential for the activation of pepsin enzyme for the digestion of proteins.
The alkaline medium is required in small intestine because it is essential for pancreatic enzymes to digest the emulsified fats, starch and proteins and particularly lipase enzyme, can break down lipids without becoming denatured in this alkaline medium.
