Why is perforated Cathode used in the production of Anode Rays?

So that only anode rays pass through the cathode and strike the walls.
Cathode rays are generated from the cathode and move towards the anode. So, cathode rays will will be unable to pass through the cathode.
Beyond the perforated cathode, it is only anode rays.
