Why Iron Ships float on water and Iron Nails sinks in water

An object will float in liquid, if the weight of displaced liquid exceeds the weight of object.
When a nail is in water , displaced volume equals to the volume of nail.
Since density of metal that is made up of nail is greater than density of water,
weight of displaced water is less than weight of nail.
Hence nail sinks in water.
In case of ship, shape of ship is made like a hollow container.
Hence weight of displaced water will be greater than weight of ship.
Hence ship floats on water
