why hydro carbons are insoluble in water but are highly soluble in solvents like benzene,carbon tetrachloride?

Hydrocarbons are organic covalent compounds.
These are insoluble in water but dissolve in organic solvents.
As organic solvent are non-polar, hence, these dissolve in non-polar covalent compounds like benzene,carbon tetrachloride
