why electolysis of lead bromide is redox reaction

Expert Answer:

The overall reaction can be represented as :
PbBr2  → Pb   +  Br2
In the electrolysis of lead bromide, reduction takes place at cathode and oxidation takes place at anode so the electrolysis of lead bromide is an redox reaction.
At cathode : Pb+2 + 2e- → Pb( Reduction)
At anode  : Br-  -  e- → Br (Oxidation)
                 Br  + Br → Br2
