Expert Answer
Its how you produce the diturbence in the medium . If you produce the disturbence in a way that the particles of the medium oscillates perpendicular to the energy propogation , the wave will be transverse and if you produce the disturbence in a way that the particles of the medium oscillates along the propagation of the energy the wave is longitudinal.
