ICSE Class 9 Answered
Why does silver exhibits a valency of +1and +2
Asked by moksharavi2008 | 01 Feb, 2023, 03:41: PM
Dear Student,
The valency of silver is + 1 , as the d sub - shell has stable configuration if they lose 1 electron from s sub - shell.
Thus, the most common valency of silver is 1.
But there are a few exceptions where it exhibits + 2 valency, when it loses electrons from the d sub - shell to exhibit transition property of metals.
Thus, silver shows two valencies +1 and +2 but +1 is more stable and common.
