Why does it happens that, if the frequency of the external force is different from the natural frequency of the body, the amplitude of oscillation is very small.But if the frequency is exactly the same as the natural frequency,the amplitude of the oscillation is very small.

When an external force acts on a body, the body starts vibrating with the frequency of the external force.
Now, if the frequency is different from natural frequency of vibration of the body, it vibrates with less amplitude.
However, if the frequency is equal to the natural frequency, then resonance occurs in the body and it starts vibrating with maximum amplitude. Resonance occurs only when the body vibrates with its natural frequency.
