In graphite, each carbon atom is linked to three other carbon atoms by Covalent bonds, There are vander wall forces betweeen the layers of graphite but these are relatively weak in comparison to a covalent bond. The layers of graphite has delocalized electrons, There is one delocalized electron for each carbon atom. These delocalized electrons are shared by all the atoms in any one layer of graphite and make the bonds between graphite stronger. Due to strong covalent bonding and delocalized electron grphite has high melting and boiling point.
