why does ccl4 doesnt hydrolyse unlike sicl4

The C atom has no d orbitals whereas Si atom has vacant d orbitals. So SiCl4 can react with H2O forming SiCl4(H2O) and then SiCl3(OH) + HCl. In this way it gets hydrolysed in stepwise mannner . The C atom can not expands its valance number beyond 4.
