Expert Answer
when we see the swimming pool bottom through water, light rays are coming from bottom of the swimming pool towards our eye. when the light ray crossing the optically denser medium(water) and travel to optically rarer medium (air) it undergoes refraction. The light ray deviating away from the normal at the interface between the two medium. Due to this deviation, it appears the light rays coming from the point which is above the swimming pool bottom. Due to this effect, the pool appear shallower than its real depth
