why does a person standing for a long time get tired even he does not appear to do any work?

Expert Answer:

Gravity weighs down a person and puts stress on his muscles and bones when he 's standing up. It takes effort to keep balanced and stand upright. Your muscles need to work to be able to do this. Even just sleeping actually uses energy (but a negligible amount)
