Why does a concave lens diverge a rays of light?

Expert Answer
A process like convex lens takes place for concave lenses. If you draw a concave surface, you’ll note that the “normal” to the concave surface is always pointing towards a focus on the Object side (whereas for a convex lens, the normal would point to the focus on the image side). This geometry explains why the output from a concave lens is diverging, effectively deviating away from the geometrical central axis of the lens.
