why do objects become weightless in free fall(give mathematical explanation)

When we stand on the weight measuring machine, it's the reaction from the machine to the force of gravity that we read as our weight since it'll be equal to the force of gravity on our body.

In free fall there is no such reaction, hence we feel the weightlessness.
