Why do lions have mane? Do they feel cold?

Mnes are present in the male lions as a shield to protect themselves. But lions use manes for purposes like-
(i) Mating as long and dark coloured manes attract females
(ii) Defense as the mane protects the lion's neck during a fight.
The golden brown fur in lions help them to sustain in cold environment.
