why do group 1 metals dissolve in liquid NH3 TO GIVE coloured solution?
Asked by HIMANSHI SHARMA | 11th Oct, 2013, 08:28: PM
Group 1 metals dissolve in liquid NH3 to give coloured solution because ammoniated electron absorbs energy in the visible region of light and thus imparts blue colour to the solution.
- The solution is paramagnetic in nature and liberates hydrogen to form amide.
- The concentrated solution is bronze in colour and diamagnetic in nature.
