Kings fought wars mainly to conquer territories. Annexation of other lands and territories not only increased their revenues (there are many instances of kings fighting wars against one another for the control of fertile and economic important regions) but also enhanced their prestige. Kings also fought wars against the invaders to in order to protect their territories from plunder and invasions.
