Why did Helen find it unnatural to play with a doll without eyes? What does this reflect about her?

The doll her aunt had gifted was the most comical and shapeless thing with no nose, mouth, ears, or eyes.
She pulled two beads off her aunt's cape, and indicated to her that she wanted her to sew them on doll.
The beads were sewed in the right place.
Helen was overjoyed. However, she lost interest soon.
Although it could be considered ironic that Helen desperately wants the doll to have eyes because Helen doesn't have eyes that function in the first place.
