why Cr2+ is a better reducing agent than Fe2+ when Cr2+ has electronic configuration 3d4 i.e can easily gain one electron to have stable 3d5 electrnic configuration and hence should be a good oxidising agent.

Expert Answer:
Cr2+ is a stronger reducing agent because it can lose one of its electron to become Cr3+ in which the t2g level of d-orbital is half filled and eg level is empty.
