Expert Answer:

Volatile metals like Hg, Cd and Zn are refined by distillation method.

In this process the impure metal is heated in a retort due to which the pure metal distills over and is collected in the receiver while the non-volatile impurities are left behind.

The volatile compounds are further separated by distillation to get the pure metal.
