Why cant we solve this using a²-b² formula

We can solve this using a2 - b2 formula as well
x2 - (x - 4y)2
= [x - (x - 4y)] [x + (x - 4y)]
= [x - x + 4y] [x + x - 4y]
= 4y (2x - 4y)
= 4y [2(x - 2y)]
= 8y (x - 2y)
