why can hydrogen be placed in group1 and 7

Hydrogen has one valence electron like elements of group 1 and the formula of its halides is similiar to that of other group 1 elements for example HCl , NaCl
On the other hand like group 17 elements it also exists as a diatomic molecule
For example H2 ,Cl2
