Why berilium not react directly with hydrogen???

Expert Answer:
Beryllium shows similarity to Aluminium because of diagonal relationship and hence shows anamolous behaviour. It does not combine directly with hydrogen because of its high ionisation energy and small size. It forms covalent compounds like Aluminium.
