Why average rate of a reaction has got no significance and the reaction reported is always instantaneous?

To know the exact path followed by the reaction and to calculate their rate of reaction in accurate way,reaction need to be observed within seconds i.e instantaneoulsy and if we do for large interval of time(i.e. for average rate of reaction), it will give large error.
