When you inhale air into your lungs, you are able to float easily because air is lighter than water. It is like a life jacket filled with air helps in floating.

Similarly, when you expel large amount of air, you would sink easily. Thus, it is easy to sink to the bottom of pool when air is expelled from lungs.
