why are variaions important?

Variations promote the survival of a species rather than an organism. Variations lead to increased survival of the species during adverse conditions.
Speciation may take place when variation is combined with geographical isolation.
The process of evolution occurs only because variations are present.
In addition, variations may merely contribute to the genetic drift.
