Why are sound waves called mechanical waves?

sound waves are called mechanical waves because it requires material medium to propogate.
Sound is produced by the vibration of objects. When objects vibrate, it collides with the molecules in the medium. This collision produces mechanical oscillations in the medium. Because of this, sound waves are known as mechanical waves

(c) Give two practical applications of reflection of sound waves?
