Expert Answer
The mountains a boon to people who live in the plains because:
- Many rivers originate in the mountains. These rivers then flow through the plains and provide water for irrigation and other purposes.
- Rivers flowing down the mountains deposite sediments in the plain regions making the soil fertile suitable for agriculture.
- At times, high mountains ranges define the climatic conditions of the plain regions. For example, without the Himalayas, the Gangetic plains would have been extremely cold and dry.
- People from plains travel to the himalayas to get respite from high temperatures.
