Why are metallic hydrides called interstitial hydrides? What does interstitial mean? in this case.

Hi Aksa, Metallic hydrides are the hydrides of transition elements. In transition elements there are small empty spaces between the atoms. Hydrogen gas gets adsorbed in these empty spaces to produce non-metallic hydrides, hence they are also called Interstitial hydrides.
