Gibberellin is commercially used in the food industry and brewing industry, particularly in the following processes-

• Malting of barley: Gibberellins are used to increase the amount of alpha-amylase in germinating bar­ley which is used in the production of malt for the brewing industry.
• Increasing sugarcane yield: Gibber­ellins stimulate elongation of internodes. Spraying the sugarcane crop with gibberellins mark­edly increases sugarcane growth and sugar yields.
• Fruit production: Gibberellins cause stalks of grapes and citrus fruits to increase considerably.
• Seed production: Gibberellin treatment stimulates bolting and thus time for seed production can be considerably reduced.
