CBSE Class 10 Answered
why are covalent compounds soft and squishy????
Asked by | 07 Sep, 2009, 10:08: PM
Covalent compounds are formed by sharing of electrons between atoms of same or different elements. Thus the forces with which they are held are weak (also called van der Waals forces). Thus less energy is required to break the bond between the atoms in a covalent compound in order to break it. Thus covalent compounds are soft and have low melting and boiling point.
