Dear student,

There is no such rule that atom can't loose or gain 5, 6 or 7 electrons. Number of electrons are gained or released to complete octet and attain a stable state. But loosing or gaining 5, 6 ,7 is uncommon.
Lets understand by oine example-

Aluminium have 3 electrons in its outermost shell. To complete octet, it has two options-
1. Gaining of 5 electrons
2. Rleaseing of 3 electrons

Here, 2nd option is more feasible because it is easy to accomplish.

Same happens in other cases too, so thats why an element can't gain or lose 5 , 6 or 7 electrons.
