Expert Answer
Ashoka is famously referred to as Ashoka the Great. He was the most famous Mauryan king and one of the greatest rulers of India. Under his rule, the Mauryan dynasty reached the heights of glory. He ascended the throne in about 273 BCE and went on to expand his empire further. After the Kalinga war, he completely gave up war in favour of peace and non-violence. He was the first king in the ancient world to give up war and proclaim peace.
