while doing  an experiment to determine the melting point of ice state the role of glass stirrer and mention the position of bulb of the thermometer

During the experiment of determining the melting point of ice, the glass rod is used to check the uniform distribution of heat supplied. It is also used to stirr the ice and water mixture.
The bulb of the thermometer should be positioned in such a way that it touches the crushed ice only and not the walls of the beaker.
