When will three particles situated at vertices of an equilateral triangle chasing each other meet?

Expert Answer

Let the particles meet at point O.

The velocity of particle at A in the direction AO = u cos300

From the diagram

cos 300 = (d/2) / AO

AO = (d/2) / cos 300

Therefore, the time taken = AO / u cos300

                                              = (d/2) / u cos2 300

                                              = (2/3)(d/u)
