When we draw potential energy diagrams for reaction rates involving transition states and when activation energy for the backward reaction is higher than that of forward reaction (exergonic reactions),the reaction rates becomes same when equilibrium is established. How the rates with different activation barrier can have the same value?

Expert Answer:

At equilibrium the rates of forward and backward reaction become same . when the reactants reaches to the energy barrier ,equilibrium. state comes so the rates are same.
