When is a triangle said to be congruent? Explain using figure.

Two triangles are said to be congruent if they are copies of each other and when superposed, they cover each other exactly.
Consider the following figures:
Here, ABC and PQR have the same size and shape. Thus, they are congruent. We write it as:
ABC PQR
This means that, when PQR is placed on ABC,
Vertex P falls on Vertex A,
Vertex Q falls on Vertex B and
Vertex R falls on Vertex C.
Also,
PQ falls along AB,
QR falls along BC and
PR falls along AC.
A falls on P,
B falls on Q and
C and R.
Thus, we can write the above correspondence as:
A P, B Q and C R; So, ABC PQR
