When do we say that electric appliances are earthed and what is their function and why is it necessary to eath electric appliances having metallic body?

Electrical appliance is earthed when its metal body is connected by means of a metal wire to the earth. This is done so that any leakage of electric current is transferred to the ground and the risk of electric shock is avoided.
