Mid day meal is a programme of the government of India which deals with the issues of food secutity and access to education. The mid day meal programme( not in present state as it is today) was initially started by few organisations and municipal corporations (Madras) in pre independent India for the children of their own locality. During post independent period, during 1962-63's Tamil Nadu became the first state to launch mid day meal programme in its state in the primary schools. Thereafter many states implemented this scheme( Gujarat and Kerala). On November 28, 2001, the Supreme Court of India making the scheme legal , directed all the government and government aided schools to provide cooked mid day meals to children.
