Ovulation is the process in the menstrual cycle by which a mature ovarian follicle ruptures and discharges an ovum.
A woman's menstruation cycle is generally 28 days long. The body releases an egg (ovulation) roughly 14 days before her period. The ovulation period is the time when the ovary releases an egg (ova) for fertilization. This egg generally lasts for 24-48 hours, known as the ovulating phase.
