Whats the relation between gravitational potential and gravitational intensity
Asked by | 30th Nov, 2013, 07:57: PM
Gravitational field intensity = gradient of Gravitational potential =dV/dr
The gravitational potential gradient dV/dr is defined as the rate of change of gravitational potential with distance in the field. This is equal to the gravitational field intensity at that point.
U = gravitational potential energy = – GMm/r
Gravitational potential V = U/m = – GM/r
Gravitational field intensity I = dV/dr
= GM/r2
