Steric hindrance is a type of hindrance which takes place due to the fact that each atom in a molecule occupies a certain amount of space.
In most of the cases, takes place because of the presence of bulky groups due to which the attack of the nucleophile takes place from the back side in the SN 2 reaction as shown:-
