what will happen if plasma membrane ruptures or breaks down?

Expert Answer:

The plasma membrane forms the boundary of the cell and keeps the cell components i.e. cytoplasm, nucleus and organelles within the cell. If the plasma membrane ruptures, these cell components will leak out of the cell and the cell will lose its integrity. None of the functions of plasma membrane will be carried out. Ultimately the cell will die.
