As we know, with negative charges, the direction of current is the inverse of the direction of motion.
Positive charges, on the other hand, will have current flowing in the direction of their motion.
This was taken into account because, at the time of the discovery of current, the charge responsible was thought to be positive, but it is actually a negatively charged electron that is responsible for current conduction.
As a result, we can assume that the current will flow southward because electrons are travelling northward.
Similarly, the direction of current for alpha particles will be towards the direction of motion of alpha particles.
