Introduction: Annie Besant was born in October 1847. She was a British socialist. She was an ardent supporter of Irish and Indian freedom movement.
Contributions: Annie Besant established the famous theosophical society in India. She also helped in launching the Home Rule Movement of India. This led to her election as president of the Indian National Congress, in late 1917. She worked tirelessly to revive the Hindu faith, its foundational philosophy and its modes of worship. She was also an educationist. She was one of the founding members of the Benaras Hindu University. She also established the Central Hindu College.
