Discontent at poor governance and life was a major cause of the Revolutions of 1848 in Europe including France. Bad harvests and economic depression in the years leading up to the 1848 created massive discontent throughout all of Europe, and food riots were common.
The Revolution of 1848 had the following impact on France:
- After 1848, many middle class families began to demand more constitutional reforms all over the world. During the later years, in France, the monarch was forced to abdicate the throne.
- France was declared as a republic based on universal male suffrage (voting rights to men).
