What type of cultivation can be done in Antarctica?

  • The majority of the Antarctica continent is covered by permanent ice and snow leaving less than 1% available for colonisation by plants. 
  • There are no trees or shrubs, and only few species of flowering plants are found. 
  • The vegetation is predominantly made up of lower plant groups such as mosses, liverworts, lichens and fungi that are specially adapted to survive in extreme environments, particularly low temperatures and dehydration.
