In case of digestion, the complex food materials are broken down into simpler and smaller substances. Various enzymes are released to enhance the process of digestion. Protiens are converted into amino acids, carbohydrates are broken down into glucose whereas fats are broken down into fatty acids and glycerol. The process of digestion is carried out in a stepwise manner in different parts of the digestive system. Complete digestion occurs in small intestine.
The end products of digestion are then taken ot different parts of the body through blood vessels. In respiration, oxygen is taken into the body and carried by blood vessels to all the cells of the body. This oxygen releases energy by oxidation of glucose.
